Homeless Persons' Week wrap up
HPW 2013 was a great success – we appeared to reach a larger and more varied number of people this year.
We sent out over 140 merchandise ‘packs’ to organisations around Australia to assist them with their HPW events. We had a great response to the merchandise, with a number of organisations requesting our designs to produce their own.
HPW was launched on Thursday 1st of August at Wesley Uniting Care Port Adelaide by Senator Doug Cameron (federal Parliamentary Secretary for Housing and Homelessness), with approximately 60 attendees.
Senator Cameron sent HA a letter of congratulations on the successful launch of Homeless Persons' Week.
We had a great deal of media interest in the launch, with ABC News, Seven News and Ten News cameras there, as well as reporters from The Australian and the Adelaide Advertiser. We also conducted ten interviews as a result of our media release, and HA staff conducted dozens more during HPW. There were more than two dozen news articles specifically on HPW in the lead up to, and during, the week, with an additional dozen mentioning homelessness and housing.
To help us better support you for Homeless Persons’ Week 2014 (and beyond), we have put together a short survey – if you participated in HPW (or wish you had) and want to give your input please do so! The link can be found here: https://www.surveymonkey.com/s/HPW2013
Be sure to mark Monday 4th August–Sunday 10th August in your diary for Homeless Persons’ Week 2014.
