Shine a light on violence against women

Day 10 - outcomes of violence

Domestic violence can have both physical and emotional outcomes.

day 10

These include

  • homicide
  • depression
  • bruising
  • withdrawal
  • internal bleeding
  • anxiety
  • miscarriage
  • PTSD
  • scarring
  • disability
  • pelvic inflammatory disease
  • isolation
  • obesity
  • fractures
  • stress
  • suicide
  • unwanted pregnancy
  • engagement in risk taking behaviours
  • low self-esteem
  • fear
  • insomnia
  • eating disorders
  • income loss and job loss

Perhaps one of the most lasting outcomes in the generational impact. Boys who witness their fathers abuse their mothers are more likely to inflict violence as adults. Girls who witness abuse against their mothers may be more tolerant of abuse as adults.
