Homelessness Australia welcomes the new commitments to homelessness in the 2024 Budget and announced following Friday’s National Cabinet meeting.
“New resources to deliver crisis and transitional accommodation for women and children fleeing domestic violence and young people at risk of homelessness will make a life changing difference to each family and young person who can now have a safe home.
“An increased focus on homelessness in the new federal state housing and homelessness agreement, now called the National Agreement on Social Housing and Homelessness, will mean services can provide more support to more people facing homelessness.
“The Government has delivered a welcome response to the homelessness sector’s concerns about people missing out on the support they need.
“While the scale of Australia’s housing crisis and tsunami of need from victim survivors fleeing violence will continue to mean we have a significant homelessness problem, today’s investments are important.
“We look forward to continuing to work with the Government to address broader reform needed to end homelessness. Each new dollar invested in social housing and homelessness means homelessness services can do more to reduce homelessness.
“An increase in JobSeeker and Youth Allowance are particular priorities for Tuesday’s Budget so people can better afford rising rents and avoid homelessness.
